Cadets take a Try Dive after supporting Fisher House

08 Jun 2017

Scuba Instructor Ray Kirton along with members of the ScubAction Dive Group, Mick ‘Disco’ Unit, ‘Swanny’ Mick Swan, Chris Drury and Karl Jones, who are based at Southam Leisure Centre created the opportunity for their cadets to fly underwater!

The Dive Group invited Flight Lieutenant Daryll Moreton Officer Commanding Officer of 2028 Southam Squadron Air Cadets, to a Scuba ‘Try Dive’ Session at Southam Leisure Centre on the 25 May. Cadets Marcus Thorburn, Thomas Stephenson, and Max Roberson were all very eager to experience scuba. This activity was the cadets’ reward for raising £600 for the ScubAction yearly charity, Fisher House, by taking part in a swim event! The cadets worked so hard to raise this amazing amount of money by swimming hundreds of lengths for Fisher House last year. The final amount raised by all charity partners was £2,000 which will go towards providing a ‘home from home’ for military patients and their families.

Flight Lieutenant Daryll Moreton said: “The activity was a great, a fun, learning experience for the cadets, who really did fly underwater! “The cadets all had a brilliant fun time and had amazing smiles on their faces at the end of their session – just look at the photographs!”

Ray Kirton said: “Following the success of this year’s fundraising Flt Lt Moreton and the cadets have kindly agreed to swim again for Fisher House on Sunday 3 December 2017 at Southam Leisure Centre. “We hope that the people of Leamington Spa, Warwick, Southam, will join the charity swim event, make donations/get sponsorship to swim, and make it another successful fund raising event for Fisher House.”
